"the mayonnaise jar"

This was an email I received a few days is an old story but it makes you think about your life and what is important...

"A professor stood before his Philosophy class and had some items in front of him. He picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

He picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. The sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes”.

The professor then produced 2 cups of coffee from under the table and poured the contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now”, said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “This jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things – your God, family, children, health, friends and your favourite passions – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house and your car. The sand is everything else – the small stuff.

“If you put the sand in the jar first” he continued “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy over the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical check-ups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand”.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a cup of coffee with a friend”.

So in closing you embark on your weekend activities..think about your "mayonaise jar" and the priorites in your life...we are off to Keremeos, is exactly 336 kilometers from here and home of Doug's brother and his wife..the highway will be calling our name after work today..have a great weekend everyone..

Where have all the tulips gone?

Our day trip today was to go the Tulip Festival on Seabird Island in Agassiz..a small town about 92 kilometers from home. We headed east on Highway One towards the tulip fields and Harrison Hot Springs..our other planned stop for the day.

Once we found the fields..TOO more rows upon rows of colour..we missed it!!!

Pictures92..should have checked the website before we left home this morning..did they not know we were driving all that way..could they not have waited to harvest until after today!!???

Pictures93After the disappointment of no rows of colour..we headed towards Harrison Hot Springs for a walk on the beach and our picnic lunch..the sun was shining..white puffy clouds..a perfect day for a walk on the promenade..

Pictures94and some tulips that were begging for their picture to be taken...

Pictures95Once lunch was done we headed west on Highway 7 towards home..but not before a stop at Kilby Provincial Park and the general store...another photo opportunity ..this time with Doug behind the camera..

just another Saturday!!

Our Saturday morning started off really slow..we watched the local news..Keremeos was the small town feature (Doug's brother and his wife have lived there since 1999)....the whole premise of the idea is to show the small towns of British Columbia...residents send in photos of the area..and Karen sent in a few pictures..she was the star photographer this morning..wonder if we should ask for her autograph next weekend??..( the following photos are not her's but if gives you an insight into what Keremeos looks like)

We spent the afternoon out and about..first we went to the Stormtech Factory Outlet ..we got some great deals..regular cost for 2 hoodies...and three jackets would have been $366..our price was $73..can you say "screaming deal"..we were then off to the land of Walmart..printer ink, a compass and some rechargable batteries were on our list...lunch time..another coupon..for A and W...then off to find a new virtually undestructable toy for Tucker..he has ruined every toy we have every we are trying a new one called a "tuffy" layers of stitching..and a few layers of fabric..we will let you know how long this one stop for today was a hair cut for me..and then off to pick up Tucker from doggy daycare.

Our evening was occupied with the on the lap top and Doug on the desktop..he was downloading some new music for the IPOD NANO...all in all a good day...what will tomorrow bring..??..depends on the weather?..maybe some tulips??..stay tuned....

another weekend done!

Well as yet another weekend comes to a close..we had a lovely time at Eagle Wind
RV park in Aldergrove, BC..just a short distance from the storage lot in Maple Ridge.  A brand new RV park just off Highway 1 was our home for the weekend.

A nice, restful weekend was ours...we had rain, clouds and sun..we slept well, walked and tried not to think of the problems that have been plaguing us at home.

Cost of satellite dish...$50
Cost of satellite service..$25 a month
getting the dish to actually work..priceless

As we were pulling out of the RV park..we were wishing we could go east instead of day we will have the freedom to go where ever we want...we can dream!..keep our eye on the prize!!

Successful Sunday!!!

We were up early on this glorious Sunday morning and we were greeted by a beautiful, sunny day!!

After our coffee and breakfast we made the decision to pay the extra $10 charge and extend our stay until 1:00 p.m.

The plan was to get the ever elusive satellite dish working!!!...after some assistance from our neighbour and a borrowed television, Doug was left to his own devices and he moved the dish in every direction..trying to follow our neighbour's advice..finally after about 45 minutes with no luck..

I said.."just sell the stupid thing, it's not worth the aggravation!!"..he moved the dish and a miracle..he finally hit it!!!

Can you say HAPPY!!!??..we were beginning to wonder if we would figure out this darn system!!!..a little boost of confidence and some channels on the television inside and we are HAPPY CAMPERS once again!

2010108174542673Now that it was working..we had some time to enjoy the sunny day..sat in the my book and before long it was time to pack up and head on down the highway towards home and the reality that goes along with it.

FREEWAY is back in his chain-link enclosure waiting until the next time we feel the need to escape!!

Thanks for joining us on this short little getaway...stay tuned..more to come one day soon!

dish of aggravation

Our Saturday morning started off with me sleeping till after 8:30. It was a bit rainy, but nothing that would dampen our spirits today.

Doug figured he would give the 'aggravation dish' another go..he is determined to get it to work.

2010107172451014We called Shaw and they re-activated the receiver. Doug spoke with our neighbour and he got some assistance from him..thank goodness for the kindness of strangers..

We hooked into his dish and now have least we know the cables and receiver work. There will be a 'dish lesson' at some point this weekend.

This afternoon we took Tucker to the Aldergrove Dog Park for a round of chase the ball.

We also took a drive to 'The Blackwood Lane Winery' purchase or tasting was done..just a couple of pictures.

We then tried to find 'The Dead Frog Brewery'..but we realized it was in a warehouse area of Aldergrove..not quite picture worthy?

We spent the balance of the day relaxing..not much on the agenda for us..pasta for dinner and a glass of wine will round out our Saturday.

"keep your eye on the prize"

Our saving grace..

We have not been  having a good week..I am not going to get into why, who or what..but needless to say we are happy that we have made it through with only  a few week may not be any better but we can hope!!

Our one 'saving grace'..has been all the blogs and trip journals..a bright spot in our days!!..thanks again for making us 'dream' and 'keep our eye on the prize'..but this weekend we are going with our 'gut instinct' and getting out of town..FREEWAY will be freed from his chain link enclosure and feel the wind once again!!

The weather may not be too promising but an escape from reality is just what we need..onward and upward..and the 'pedal to the metal'..we will be happy once again!!..our little home on wheels is calling us!!

See ya later!!

Eagle Wind RV Park

Bigdawg and Freeway are back out on the open road..

well the road to Aldergrove,B.C.

and the Eagle Wind RV Park..about a half hour drive from the storage lot in Maple Ridge. A great RV Park that is close to home.

201010716395647520101071640016492010107164007136Eagle Wind RV Park is just off Highway One, exit 264. A small RV park that has room for big-rigs. There is a pool and hot tub, a common room with a stone fireplace, patio, barbeque, laundry room, and free wifi.

2010107170404046We have driven through this RV park before but this is the first time we have stayed here.

We were happy with the reception we received on arrival and our site has room for the trailer and truck..there is hedges in between each site and once they fill in the sites will be quite private.

We arrived after work, got things organized..made an attempt at once again setting up the satellite dish, but still have not had any luck getting a signal.

We will call Shaw in the morning and get them to re-activate the receiver in the hopes that this will help.

We are lulled to sleep with the sounds of the traffic on the highway..but the sound of our fan will drown out the rumbling traffic.

Till tomorrow from Eagle Wind..dream on!!

Have a great day everyone...we will continue learning all the "ins and outs" of our new toy..more pictures to come!!
