Heading Home ….

Our first tent camping trip is in the books…we arrived home Sunday day earlier than we had planned..why?…the one thing we couldn’t control was the weather?!…

Fullscreen capture 22052011 83545 PM

after spending a very  rainy night we decided to head home today…the forecast didn’t look that promising so we figured why pack up in the rain on Monday..…head out while there was no moisture falling from the sky…
So now for the recap on what we thought of our first ‘tent camping’ experience…
the tent..

an Outbound six man Lakeside Long..roomy..nice vestibule…kept us dry…9/10

The sleeping worth the money we spent on these!!.

3.5 inches thick..very comfortable…10/10
sleeping bags..

warm and cozy..10/10
The only downside of the sleeping arrangements were the pillows..we should have brought one more each…

We even had a portable toilet so there was no leaving the tent in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.. now that is a REAL  bonus!!!

And Doug had even bought a portable fan that ran on batteries..perfection!!!

The cooking and the meals?..was just fine..we ate well..never went hungry!..the old cooler worked well keeping the food and drinks at a good temperature..

Tucker was a good boy..slept well in the tent..yet another bonus!!

The camping experience on the whole went very well…we had a discussion today with regards to how difficult it is to know what it is like to have a ‘trailer’ and then to revert back to a tent..and sleeping low to the ground…( for those of you interested…the getting out of bed was  bit difficult but we managed)

But I, in turn said that even when we had  the trailer and  it rained?..sure we were dry but there was the feeling ‘of the walls closing in’ if we spent too much time indoors…and more than once we both had thought we need a bigger trailer???

After packing up, we realized that even with the trailer the time it took was about the same..

So basically the final score of this first trip?…with the weather being the only downside…I would say we would rate this first trip at 8.5/10..we may have been ‘roughing it’..but all in all it was a  success!!

So now the laundry awaits and drying out a few items..and we will be good to go again!!!

going to new heights…

Saturday morning and the sun is out..with a few clouds…there is a threat of rain in forecast but the weather is one thing we cannot control..

breakfast was prepared by ‘moi’..scrambled egg with green onion, tomato, bacon and cream cheese with strawberries and orange juice on the side…

no longer are we deemed trailer trash…we sat outside at the picnic table and ate our one has turned off the raging torrent as yet..the water keeps coming..along with it some debris are going for rides along the  rapids…..floating logs…a ‘blue ‘beach ball?’…just to name a few…

We spent the balance of the morning going to ‘new heights’…

up to the top of Stemwinder Mountain…1430 meters? upwards of 6000 feet?..{sorry can’t look it up to for my American readers. my ‘google’ is not working here campsite #21…}

yes, folks that ‘white stuff is snow’…1430 meters above sea level..middle of May and we hit some snow…

headed back down the mountain…

we then headed for a surprise visit to the ‘birthday boy’!..Happy 57th birthday, Ron!!…their friend Rick was visiting from New Brunswick..via Kelowna, Nanaimo and Vancouver…IMG_6090

we first met Rick in 1985 when Carlie was just ‘wee baby’

and then again about two years later before they headed to the Great White North…

..there was also some ‘shopping’ done while we were at Ron and Karen’s…we were in need of a few roll of paper towel, a few more garbage bags, firewood and a jug of water..thanks guys!..

on the way west again..the rain was coming down..oh no..there is no  tarp?? the time we got back to the campsite…it was only drizzling a bit…things were  a bit wet but not a big deal…we dried things off and settled in for the afternoon…

That was until we discovered that the car charger for the cell phones didn’t work..back out again towards the town of  Princeton…one car charger and a drive down the Old Hedley Road…and a little mud on the tires…

then Doug spotted this little marmot on a rock…he looks like he has a ‘snoring problem?’ that not a ‘breathe right strip across his nose?’

so that concludes our Saturday at Stemwinder..thanks for riding along..

I am signing out from my computer station at the picnic table..tomorrow there will be a hat on my head..I see a bad hair day in my not too distant future..oh well, that’s camping!!!

dinner is now done..we have had a campfire..made a couple of s’mores for dessert  but the rain is coming down..we are huddled in the tent…with our chairs, and the crib board…now that the crib game is over ..Doug is playing ‘angry bird’ on his phone..Tucker is asleep on our bed…and so ends a rainy evening…we are hoping for sunny skies or at least a dry day tomorrow……hope the rain and raging river don’t keep us awake..!!

just call us crazy..

via the front seat of the jeep…this is being written…we are on the Hope Princeton Highway….we left home at 9:45..the jeep is stuffed to the roof and above..all secured and tied down..we head east towards our ‘campsite’..but not before a fill up of gas in Hope at $1.26 a litre… and McDonalds for lunch..

Our first stop on the highway was because of some pretty flashing lights and a laser gun..the nice gentleman wanted to give us a ‘lovely blue piece of paper’..the speed limit was 80 km an hour..and our ‘Freeway’ was enjoying feeling the wind a bit too much…the cost of this ‘little blue note’?..$113 if we pay within 30 days!…geesh, ‘Freeway’….the month of May continues to be a great one!!

our usual ‘pit stop’…Tucker goes for a run in the doggy area at the Manning Park Lodge…as you can see by the look on his face..we have encroached on his back seat space with all our stuff!!..sorry ‘little buddy’ it will all be worth it!..

we have arrived safely at Stemwinder Provincial Park..home for the next few days..Campsite #21..right along the Simillkemeen is a raging torrent so Tucker much to his dismay will not be going swimming!..

so as we sit here tonight quietly enjoy the sights and sounds of camping once again…the fire is going and the river is raging past…

the land of no internet or cell service…but here I sit at the picnic table….on the laptop..using the much appreciated program..Live Writer…IMG_6058

can we go to bed now!!.I am so tired!!!…this camping thing is hard work…

Aww nuts…

How on earth does someone do a recap of the past seven months?… The last post that I did was on May forward to today, December 3...
