What does the word ‘saunter mean?’

saunter is "to walk about in an idle or leisurely manner."

It's a happy stroll that is both casual and hip. It is slow and sometimes aimless.

It's a way of stopping to smell the roses without actually stopping.

Do you saunter?

  • walk slowly
  • admire the view
  • window shop
  • drink coffee slowly
  • read the newspaper or do the crossword/suduko  at your leisure?

Are you deemed one who saunters?… Do you have all the time in the world to stroll down the sidewalk arm in arm… or peruse the grocery store aisles without being on a time schedule?

If you are one of those kind of people I envy you…my life is a ‘mach six  with my hair on fire’  at least five  days a week..…

There is not enough time to get everything done that needs doing..and then add a full time job into the mix  and you have a day filled with an endless list of to do items…

Then along comes the weekend and the ‘brakes’ are applied and we sit back and relax…and we turn into ‘ones who saunter’…

One day I know our life will be filled with time to ‘stop and smell the roses’ ..but until then it will be a ‘rush to the finish’..

We do slow down to admire the view and this blog is filled with those days.. and one day  we know that every day will be a day to ‘saunter’..

..Today was World Sauntering Day..did that change my ‘mach six with my hair on fire day?..no..but it should have..wish I would have known that this morning?

I have been most fortunate to have great men in my life…

first my own Dad…

and then my wonderful husband of almost 31 years ..

Doug has been a great Dad to our only daughter and…

I am sure if ‘Tucker and Oliver could say Happy Father’s Day..they would…

A Dad is a person
who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
what you have on your mind.

He's someone who listens,
suggests, and defends
A dad can be one
of your very best friends!

IMG_7641[3]He's proud of your triumphs
but when things go wrong
A dad can be patient
and helpful and strong.

In all that you do,
a dad's love plays a part
There's always a place for him
deep in your heart.

And each year that passes
You're even more glad,
More grateful and proud
just to call him your dad!
Thank you, Dad .

P1060287for listening and caring
for giving and sharing
but, especially, for just being you!
Happy Father's Day

Ladies first?

When Doug and I started dating in 1979 ..we had always thought of ourselves as ‘Susan and Doug’..

As the years went on we became ‘Doug and Sue’..

What ever happened to ‘Ladies first?’…

Today as we were on our usual Saturday morning errands we were discussing this  interesting fact..

We started naming off couples that we know and began to realize how it seems to be the norm with most that the man’s name comes first..

is it the amount of syllables that make it sound better when you reverse it?..or is it just what we are use to?

My friend Robbie and her husband go with ‘Robbie and Bob’..Bob and Robbie..just sounds not normal...

Brenda and Ken on the other hand are a ‘ladies first’..sounds better to us..

Then there is Doug’s brother and his wife.. Ron and Karen…switch it around and it sounds funny…

Even my sister ….’Dan and Sabine’ sounds much better than ‘Sabine and Dan’..

Now onto blogville couples..

Gordon and Juanita would be Juanita and Gordon?..that one is definitely not right..

Paul and Mary ..Mary and Paul?..not right either…

Rick and Paulette would be Paulette and Rick?..now that just sounds weird…

..even Sam and Donna..or Al and Kelly would sound funny to us if the names were reversed..

‘Mom and Dad’ sound better than ‘Dad and Mom’..

..so as the list goes on it seems that it is the ‘man’s name first seems to be the norm…

..then there is Allen and Lolita..Lolita and Allen?..nope doesn’t work for us..either..

..I even went through the list of bloggers we  have met and out of the 14..half are ‘man’s name  first’….

like Russ and Donna….theirs too could go either way..

then there is ‘Toni and Doug’..’Doug and Toni’ sounds fine too…

I really think it has to do with the amount of syllables in the names that makes it sound better one way rather than the other…

I am just most grateful to be a ‘half of a whole’..

as I am sure all  of the couples mentioned in this post are…

so no matter if it is the lady or the man’s name first..as long as the two are linked together..

..Can you tell it was a long drive to Abbotsford this morning?..

I know!..where do I come up with stuff’..my head is full of useless thoughts’..I have to share otherwise it would explode..

we had some fun with this one….is it Ladies first for you and yours or Man first?

Stayin’ Alive?

Most of the blogs that I read are ones of RV’ers…the travelling, seeing the country ..enjoying the view out the windshield.

These  are posts that keep me going back to read and read some more..

The desert, ocean and the mountains from the sea to the lakes..all are interesting in their own way..

So many times though I have read posts with regards to ‘how difficult it is to keep the blog going as we are sitting in one place ?’

How true this is..it can be very difficult to come up with new and exciting/or some days not so exciting topics to write about..

Sure there are bloggers out there who are able to have the creativity to  post every day..kudos to them..I wish I could be that creative..or my life was that interesting..

But the daily schedule that we endure with our weekly work routine  and the ‘stuff’ involved in keeping up the house hardly seems like an  event worth writing about..

..so for me..trying to keep this little ‘blog alive and well’….can be difficult at times..

I find that   ‘blogging’  is sort of like a ‘special relationship’…it needs to be ‘fed and nurtured..loved and cared for…

Some days it gets a ‘huge meal’ and other days it is lucky if it gets a ‘text message’..

This blog is  a commitment that I have made to myself ..I have never deemed my self a quitter so I will continue to persevere through the slow times…

Sure there are days when I ignore it..and then there are other times when it is ‘well fed with words, photos and lovely words  from the readers out in blog Ville..

..so as we continue to live our life in our condo in the big city..

I can hope that soon there will be more days that  will be deemed ‘ a good meal to feed this little blog’

If you lead…we will follow?

Our Sunday ‘jeeping’ adventure took us along the beautiful sea to sky highway heading towards the Squamish/ Whistler area..

At the Furry Creek Golf Course is where we met our ‘tour guide’s for the day…Ryan and Chloe..(Doug works with Ryan)..

In behind the beautiful golf course with it’s gorgeous views of  Howe Sound is a forest service road…the Britannia Mine and Mount Sheer area..

..lots of hills, waterfalls, and large puddles…

Our first stop was a huge cement bunker structure..we had no idea what it was?..could have been a workshop or maybe the top of a large mine shaft?..

at this stop…the rain had arrived and Doug decided to ‘air down’…makes the ride much more comfortable..

We carried on a few more kilometers and over a few bridges…and we arrived at

a Generator Station…

..lots of old mining equipment..it would have been fun to explore a bit more but the deluge of rain had begun..

‘please don’t take my picture…there are sticks to find!!’

..rather than taking the bridge like normal people we drove through the river..

..I was told..this is what Jeeps are made for?..anyone have a set of oars for sale?

..as we climbed higher and  higher…

there was some snow on the side of the road..

..and a road block..

..lots of water flowing over the rocks…

…then there was the view from this vantage point..

a beautiful wooden deck in the middle of no where…a perfect place for a picnic ..if it wasn’t raining..

‘Ryan and Chloe’…they didn’t want their picture taken….tough cookies!!..’

just one more quick look…’can you see the highway in the middle of the picture?’

a few more twists and turns…one more dead end..a deer and a grouse…

..is it lunchtime yet?..

this was the view at our picnic spot..perfection…

..egg sandwiches and grapes..and a view that was worth all the mud, gravel, boulders and pot holes…

..the bridge to no where?..

time to get back on the pavement and put some ‘air back in the tires’….

..most definitely no longer a ‘mall crawler or a pavement princess’..

…thanks Ryan and Chloe for a lovely tour of the Britannia Mines area…

if you lead we will follow…

Aww nuts…

How on earth does someone do a recap of the past seven months?… The last post that I did was on May 16..fast forward to today, December 3...
